70’s Big Female – Lily

Mondays are devoted to the 70’s Big Females out there who train to get stronger and look great doing it.

Lily is a consistent presence in her north Florida gym. I’ve seen her post online about hitting up squats, deadlifts, snatches, or clean and jerks on holidays — every day is just another training day for Lily. Her 145 pound frame holds a 40″ ass with ease, which easily passes the 38″ mark set for 70’s Big Females. It isn’t just for show; Lily brings her lunch pail to the gym to do some fucking work. Here is the second set of five of high bar squatting 185 for 10 reps. I’ll repeat that again: five sets of 185×10…40 pounds above body weight. And it’s not even hard.

The thing about Lily is that she’s training hard all the time. She doesn’t dabble just because someone told her to squat; she lifts because she loves it. She’s, yet again, proof that lifting and being strong not only doesn’t make a woman BIG, but she’s also proof that there are hardcore women that are lurking behind the scenes in gyms across the world…un-racking the bar one more time.

An easy 245 pound deadlift (almost a year old vid):

Every week the 70’s Big Female post will continue to put down the notion of “getting bulky”, prove that lifting creates a wonderful female figure, and eradicate misconceptions about women and lifting.

  1. I don’t usually do this, but I felt compelled to tell you something. You have an absolutely breathtaking heiny. I mean that thing is good. I wanna be friends with it.

  2. Double overhand grip on that 245 pound deadlift is very impressive. I wonder if she can pull 300 these days?

Speaking of ladies, yesterday I had a little PR–after a couple dozen frustrating years of aerobics and machines, my mother (age 52) is goign to start a linear progression. I explained the major compound lifts and a basic program to her yesterday. Being badass and awesome, my mom already knew what 70s Big Food was before we even got to nutrition. She had me go on youtube to show me what’s now my new favorite tv show. These british ladies were Epic Meal Time before those canadian dudes stole the concept Check this out–Two Fat Ladies from BBC!

The blonde swarthy one has regular access to pheasant in her life, matter of fact.

I used to watch 2 fat ladies when i was a kid with my mum. sadly one of them is in food heaven now, i cant remember which one though.

It was the dark haired one who died, and it was worth pointing out that the majority of us don’t talk like that.

I love it when American TV show’s imitate us, they get it sooo wrong, but it’s funny.

  5. Anyone else watch World’s Strongest Man on ESPN yesterday? I don’t understand why they wait like 9 months to show it on tv. Brian Shaw is a force of nature! I think the finals will be on either tonight or next weekend.

  6. Truly, I would ********* that whosoever pulled me out would become the king of England.

While I thought what you said was funny, I still want this to be an environment where girls want to read the site. Maybe lifting is just for girls with a sense of humor, but…I dunno, let’s try it my way.

  7. I just got more work done on a sleeve I have working on for about a year now. The inside of my arm has heavy shading and heavy colors all throughout. Should I wait a few days to get back in the gym? Or hop right back in? Does it even matter? The only reason I ask this time around is because of the volume of irritation, ink, and location…

I didn’t realize you were talking about a tattoo at first…

  8. Stankrom – I would wait. I have a complete 3/4 full color sleeve including my bicep, ditch, and elbow. I waited until it was completely healed before I went back in the gym.

I always thought the healing process was way worse than actually getting the work done. Also, if you aren’t icing it constantly I would get on that.

  9. Man, the session itself wasn’t bad at all. I only sat for about 4 hours, the day after is what always gets me. I’ve never heard icing before, all I have ever done is the aquaphor treatment (which always feels AMAZING when I put it on and rub it in). I’ll have to give it a shot… It’s frustrating ’cause I did my de-load last week, got some ink yesterday and now I’m sitting… BOO
